Dorset Park by Northland Residential Honored with National Design Award

Northland Residential announced today that Dorset Park, a neighborhood of 26 homes located in the master-planned community of Union Point in Weymouth, Massachusetts, has won a 2017 Best in American Living™ Award (BALA) in the single family production category by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). Award levels, including platinum, gold, silver, and Home of the Year, will be announced at the NAHB International Builders’ Show on January 10 in Orlando, Fla.

The design team for Dorset Park includes Don Powers and Jeremy Lake of Union Studio, Providence, RI; Tom Ryan and Alan Aukeman of Ryan Associates in Waltham, MA; Stephanie Morrison of Morr Interiors, Newmarket, NH; and photographer Shelly Harrison of Shelly Harrison Photography, Chestnut Hill, MA.

“We are thrilled that Dorset Park is being honored yet again as one of the top residential home design projects in the country,” said Peter Crabtree, Project Executive and Vice President of Northland Residential Corporation. “We put as much effort into planning the neighborhood as we did into designing the actual homes and it’s wonderful to see our team acknowledged for their creativity, passion, and attention to detail with another accolade. The entire Dorset Park project team is very proud.”

The conservation land to the rear of the 26 single family homes is unique to Dorset Park and provided the perfect opportunity to capture tranquil private space for homeowners. Inviting sidewalks, classic front porches, and a neighborhood “pocket park” bring a sense of community to the neighborhood. Each of these 3 bedroom homes also incorporates flexibility in the interior design, such as an owner’s entry, which serves as a mudroom, landing zone, and pantry, and makes smart use of space.

Now in its 34th year, BALA recognizes outstanding achievement by builders and design professionals in all sectors of the residential housing industry including single-family production, custom, multifamily, affordable, remodeling, community, and interiors. BALA is built on the principle that all great homes start with great design, no matter cost or size.

Buying a home is often the most significant purchase people will make in their lifetime, and BALA winners spotlight what building industry professionals need to know to set their project apart and hit the right mark with today’s highly educated and discerning home buyers.
